Wanting car hire with winter tyre costs included already? We can help here at Clarify.
Rather than expecting our users to search through the terms and conditions for every car they are considering - to check whether or not winter tyres are fitted - we have done the hard work and checked out the details already.
We have created a special filter on our results page which enables you to see cars where snow, winter, or all season tyres have been fitted to your rental car. If these are limited to a particular time of year then we will also limit the period where we show that cars have been winterised to that period as well.
If you use this page to perform your search, you will discover we have already preselected the winter tyre features.
Why hire a car with Winter Tyres?
If you are heading into the mountains, winter tyres are really advantageous. Designed for when the average temperature is below 7°C the tyres are made of a softer compound and a different tyre pattern meaning they offer better traction and grip in snowy conditions. And the difference is remarkable!
Here Auto Europe show by how much Winter tyres on a 2 wheel drive car outperform a 4x4 on Summer tyres:
Should I consider Studded or Spiked Tyres?
You might find that in extreme conditions studded or spiked tyres are the norm.
Typically in locations such as Iceland or Finland you will find cars are supplied with these tyres, which offer even more protection in temperatures that are significantly sub-zero. They are not the answer if the temperatures are variable, as they offer less grip on roads where there is no snow cover.
What about All Season Tyres?
All season tyres offer some of the advantages of winter tyres but on a slightly harder compound. They can cope with higher temperatures as well. The chart below shows the differences that Continental Tyres have calculated can be expected between Winter, All Season and Summer tyres throughout the year.
