Why Visit South Africa?
As of this week South Africa has come off the UK government's red travel list meaning trips are once more possible to this magnificent country. As South Africa moves into its summer months, it becomes a haven for tourists to escape the cold, winter months of the UK. The wonderful people of South Africa are more times than not welcoming and happy to share their beautiful country with visitors.
Incredibly, South Africa has something to offer no matter which month you visit. The months of November to March are generally considered to be high season with glorious weather, festivals and events. You'll often find the accommodation during these months is booked up well in advance. The UK's summer months (and South Africa's winter months!) of April to October are a great time to visit the national parks and book yourself into a safari.
It's worth mentioning that although South Africa has an understandable fame for safaris and all things the 'Big 5', it has so much else to offer.
Johannesburg is shedding its previous reputation and transforming into a destination in its own right. There are a number of museums which delve into South Africa's history such as Constitution Hill, the Apartheid Museum and the James Hill Transport Museum. Cape Town offers an urban paradise with the breath taking Table Mountain overlooking it. There is a vibrant scene with a mixture of cuisines and types of restaurant. Like Johannesburg, Cape Town has a number of interesting museums and also outdoor attractions like the famous Boulders Penguin Colony which is home to thousands of African penguins.
Not far inland from Cape Town you have the beautiful vineyards of South Africa which produce internationally renowned and recognised wines. If you're a wine-lover, it's a must to discover and visit some of the vineyards and taste their produce.
If you're looking for a more adventurous and outdoor based trip, South Africa boasts a whole host of extreme sports including the world's largest Bungee Swing in Durban, white water rafting in a number of locations across the country, forest canopy trails with zip wires and much, much more to enjoy.
As you can see, South Africa is a wonderfully diverse and fulfilling country that makes the perfect destination for families, couples and friends alike. There is so much on show and to pack into a trip making it unsurprising that many visitors choose to go again and again. The best way to see all it has to offer is by hiring a vehicle so you can travel around at your own pace and explore wherever takes your fancy!
