Renting a Larger Car: What You Need to Know
Don’t delay hiring a 7-seater car as they are selling fast!
There are many reasons why you may need to hire a car with 7 or more seats such as travelling with extended family or a group of friends. You may not need the seats but rather a bigger vehicle to store the luggage you need to take. If you are travelling with young children there are often large items of equipment such as prams which take up a great deal of boot space. Are you taking sports equipment such as gold clubs or even a surfboard? Cars with seven seats or more are very popular yet tend to be in short supply so they are often the first to sell out.
Whatever your reason, book now and reserve your car with 7 or more seats today.
How can I get a quote for a 7-seater car?
It is so simple with Clarify Car Hire. Run your quote using the form on this page and once your results are up, you can use the Number of Seats filter to just show cars which are big enough for your needs.
What should I consider when renting a large people carrier?
If you are travelling with a group of people, consider how much luggage you will be taking and also how far you will be travelling in the vehicle. If you are only travelling a short distance then your passengers may be happy to travel with bags across their laps. On a long journey, being squeezed in around suitcases can be very uncomfortable. If you have lots of bags and many miles to cover, you may want to look at a 9-seater for that extra luggage space.
Watch out for cars which are 7 seaters but described as 5+2 - we make these very clear in the description. These vehicles are 5 seaters with occasional 2 seats which occupy the boot space. When the seats are in use, there is very limited room for luggage.
Will I definitely get the size car I have booked?
When you book a car from a certain group, you will be provided with a car from the same group although not necessarily the exact model you saw on your quote. For example, if your quote showed a Ford Galaxy, you may be offered a VW Sharan or a Seat Alhambra but you wouldn’t be provided with a VW Polo!
Do larger hire cars have a higher security deposit?
Bigger and more expensive cars can often come with more hefty excesses and security deposits. If this is a concern for you then you can use our filters to find car rental option with lower or no security deposits or car hire packages with lower or no excess. These may cost more to book as it can include additional cover with the car hire company but they can relieve you of the worry of having a large amount held on your credit card. It also means that, if you do scrape the car in a car park, there will be less paperwork to contend with.
Can I hire a 7-seater with a debit card?
Yes, you can! In many locations, there are car rental companies that are happy to accept a debit card and will not expect a credit card when you arrive at the car hire desk to collect the vehicle. Simply use our handy payment filter to select ‘Debit Card Accepted’ and your search can be underway.
What can I do if there are no 7-seater cars available?
You could try a city centre location near to where you are staying rather than collecting from the airport, or consider flying into a different airport which has more availability. If your flights are already booked then, if there is more than one driver, you may be able to opt for two smaller cars rather than one larger one. This may also be an option if demand for 7 seaters is high and the prices reflect that.
I’m not used to driving a large vehicle, do you have any tips?
People carriers tend to have a driver’s seat which sits a little higher than standard cars and windows all the way around so visibility is usually excellent. One difference with a bigger car is that they are heavier and therefore take longer to stop when braking so do leave plenty of room between you and the car in front. The most common accidents with 7 seaters are scrapes and dents when parking or manoeuvring. If you need to move your large car within a small space, have one of your passengers get out of the car to act as a banksman to help guide you.
