Are you concerned about leaving a large deposit on your credit card when you hire a car?
Did you know that through Clarify Car Hire you can easily find car hire deals where no security deposit is needed?
What is a security deposit?
When you hire a car, you are being loaned a very expensive object. Car hire companies need to know that, if you should damage it, you have the means to pay. They usually take the security deposit in the form of a hold on your credit card which means the funds aren’t taken but they are ‘put aside’ so they are available to use should the car hire company need them at the end of your hire.
Why do car hire companies take a security deposit?
Even when you rent a car that comes with collision damage waiver, you are likely to still have an excess that you are liable for. Also, the CDW usually doesn’t cover areas such as the wheels, tyres, roof, underbody and glass elements. If these are damaged then you would be liable for the whole cost. You can cover these by opting for the additional top-up insurance offered when you book with Clarify Car Hire. Security deposits can also cover parking fines, tolls and fuel.
Why choose no deposit car hire?
For many people, leaving a block on their credit card can present a problem. If you don’t have a large credit limit or you need the funds for other purposes such as paying your hotel bill, a security deposit can put car hire out of reach. If you do not have a credit card, you may find that a car hire company will not accept your booking as they cannot put a hold on a debit card in the same way as a credit card.
How you can find no deposit car hire?
It couldn’t be easier to find no deposit car rental packages with Clarify Car Hire. Simply use our filter as shown below to select £0 deposit when you run your quote. Easy!
If you need car hire which accepts a debit card and will not expect a credit card, you can use our debit card payment filter in the same way.
What happens at the desk with a no deposit car hire?
When you book with Clarify Car Hire, we only take a small rental deposit to reserve your car. When you get to the desk you will need to pay for the remainder of your hire and any extras you choose to add. You may also need to pay for a small fuel deposit. Some companies set this as a separate amount from any security deposit.
Does no deposit car hire mean I am not liable for an excess?
No. The security deposit is the amount the car hire company put on hold but the excess can be larger. Even with a smaller security deposit or no deposit, you are still liable for the whole amount of the excess. If you wish to have no security deposit AND no excess then you can apply both filters through Clarify Car Hire to find packages you are happy with.
Are car hire packages which include a deposit cheaper?
They can be. However, with many no deposit car hire packages, they include additional insurance so you have wider cover than you might otherwise have. These more inclusive packages may also lead to a shorter discussion at the desk as you have already taken out their additional insurance.
